Inspired by a promise to his late blind grandmother, a 23-year-old South African computer science student has taken his AI-powered smart glasses for blind and visually impaired people to the global stage at the LEAP East technology competition in Hong Kong.

The Ministry of Health and Social Services has reaffirmed that it is making rehabilitation and assistive technology services available across the country.

Currently such services are offered free of charge only at seven hospitals.
