Landless People's Movement (LPM) National Spokesperson Lifalaza Simataa said the party will soon provide its official reaction to the 2025 Regional Councils and Local Authorities election results, after losing control of strongholds in the Hardap and ||Kharas Regions.
Independent candidates managed to scoop three constituencies in the Kavango regions during the recently concluded Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections.
There has been a rise in the number of independent candidates in the country.
Of the 752,43 voters registered for the local authority election, only 272,942—representing 36.29%—cast their ballots.
Ballots rejected were 3,512.
The Swapo Party secured 52.40% of the votes. IPC came in second with 15.01%, while LPM followed with 5.85%.
The 2025 Regional Councils and Local Authority Election recorded low turnout.
Over 1.4 million voters were registered for the regional council elections, but only 609,000, representing 40.7%, voted, while over 5,000 ballots were rejected.
In line with the Electoral Law, special voting is allowed for a certain category of voters to cast their votes outside the regular polling day.
Special voting for the Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections will be conducted on Monday, 24 November.
