Road accidents and crashes have claimed 44 lives in the Omaheke Region since 2024. During the period under review, more than 300 individuals were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Several stakeholders have joined forces to launch a drunk-driving assessment and law enforcement campaign starting in July.

The aim is to root out drunk driving, which has been identified as one of the main contributors to road crashes on Namibian roads.

Omusati Police Regional Commander, Commissioner Ismael Basson, says 11 people in the region have been arrested for drunk driving since the Easter long weekend began yesterday.
