Meatco has highlighted that clarification by the European Union on temporary animal-health measures following Namibia's Foot-and-Mouth Disease outbreak will allow eligible consignments to reach their intended markets and help reduce the immediate commercial impact on the livestock value chain.

The European Union has suspended the entry of certain Namibian meat products following the country’s Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak.

The restrictions, announced on Monday, affect fresh meat from cattle, sheep and goats, as well as certain processed products, including biltong.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform has denied media reports suggesting it declared the removal of the Veterinary Cordon Fence (Red Line) impossible.
