The transatlantic slave trade may have ended centuries ago, but its scars continue to shape societies across Africa and the diaspora.

The South African Supreme Court of Appeal has upheld the plea that was made to it by the family of Zambia's late former President Edgar Lungu, overturning the August 25 High Court judgement which initially favoured the Zambian government. 

South Africa is expected to host the 9th Summit of the Southern African Customs Union this week in Cape Town.

The summit will bring together the heads of state and governments and representatives of the five SACU member states on Friday.
