The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) this week engaged journalists from different media houses to help them tell the story behind numbers. 

Media Ombudsman John Nakuta has commended the media for its fair and balanced reporting of activities related to the November Presidential and National Assembly elections so far.

Nakuta, however, called for improved representation of women in election coverage. 

A lecture that took place at the University of Namibia's (UNAM) main campus recently explored both the positive and negative aspects of media and communication within the Namibian context.

Professor Jairos Kangira is the Coordinator of the Mass Media Professorial Lecture and explained its purpose.

The Namibian Police, in conjunction with UNESCO, concluded a training of trainers workshop titled 'Project on Training Security Forces in Promoting Freedom of Expression and the Safety of Journalists'.

Over 54 participants were trained at the Israel Patrick Iyambo Police College in the capital.

However, political journalist Jemima Beukes points out that the lack of adequate resources for media houses poses a significant challenge to their effective participation in the electoral process.
