The Ukwangali Traditional Authority raised more than 363 thousand dollars at a fundraising gala dinner to procure essential agricultural equipment for the people of Ukwangali.

The fundraising gala is the first of its kind held in the Ukwangali Traditional Authority.

The coronation ceremony took place at the Gciriku Tribal Office at the Ndiyona settlement in Kavango East over the weekend.

The Ministry of Urban and Rural Development says at this stage it cannot confirm the validity of the elections held by the |Khomanin community to remove their Gaos Juliane Gawa-!Nas and her council from the office.

A vote of no confidence was instituted against Gaos Gawa-!Nas and her council on 16 May. 

|KHOMANIN AUTHORITY REJECTS NO-CONFIDENCE VOTE

The |Khomanin Traditional Authority has described the vote of no confidence elections against Gaos Juliane Gawa!Nas and her council are illegal.

The traditional authority argues that the community members in question did not follow the right procedures for the elections.

Members of the |Khomanin community have voted in favour of removing Gaos Juliane Gawa-!Nas and her council from the office.

The preliminary results from that election indicated that 634 out of 707 votes were elected for the removal of Gaos Gawa-!Nas and her council.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN) marked the centenary of its missionary work in the Kavango regions. Established in 1926, the church has played a significant role in the area.

A German missionary, Otto Emil Narchi, established the first church at Nkurenkuru.

Members of the Landless |Khomanin Association have initiated a formal process to remove Gaos Juliane Gawa-!Nas and the entire traditional council, citing a vote of no confidence.

The no-confidence vote is scheduled for 16th May.
