Namibia has 68 000 migrants are legally in the country according to the 2011 National Census. This was said by the Minister of Labour Industrial Relations and Employment Creation, Utoni Nujoma when he launched the National Labour Migration Policy in Windhoek this morning. Nujoma further said the policy is tailored to address labour migration in the Namibian context. He called on all institutions to cooperate for the full implementation of the policy. Job Muniaro of the National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) at the same press conference said that Namibians must receive preference when it comes to employment. "We cannot outsource jobs to foreign nationals while Namibians can do the job," said Muniaro. Namibians must receive employment opportunities first and only if skills are lacking we can get it from abroad said Muniaro. NOTE: An earlier version of this article state that 68 000 migrants are working in Namibia.
