While there has been commendable adherence to COVID-19 regulations in the Erongo Region, domestic violence and drinking and driving continues to cause great stress in the region. Ten cases of domestic violence reported in the region, while multiple other cases of assault were reported, most of which were alcohol-related. Five others were arrested at the roadblock between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay and Swakopmund and charged with drinking and driving, and two car accidents with no fatalities. Police said there were a few incidents of non-compliance with the curfew but this time around they focused on education and didn't arrest anyone, although in some incidents people were asked to sleep at the roadblocks. This week, however, the police have warned that there will be no leniency for those who break the curfew.
