An ammonia gas leakage sends shock waves through the workforce of Meat Corporation of Namibia (Meatco) in the capital today. Senior corporate communications officer at Meatco, Undamuje Hambira, confirmed the gas leakage to NBC News. She added that all the employees on the deboning facility were safe and have not been affected by the gas leakage. She said there were about 350 employees on the production site when the gas leaked but only two inhaled the gas and had to be taken to a clinic for observation. The Windhoek Fire Brigade was called and assisted the employees and assessed the facility. Meatco has about 1 000 fixed-term employees who work on a shift-based system.
