AUC Chairperson re-elected for another 4-year-term, DRC's President Tshisekedi becomes AU Chairman

The 34th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of African Union (AU) has re-elected Chadian politician, Moussa Faki Mahamat as Chairperson of the AU Commission (AUC) for another 4-year-term. Mahamat contested unopposed and will be deputised by Rwanda's Dr Monique Nsanzabaganwa. Mahamat promised to continue to strengthen the work of the AU Commission to respond to challenges facing the continent. President Hage Geingob took to social media to congratulate Mahamat and his deputy, saying that he was confident in their ability to advance Agenda 2063 and the "Africa We Want". He pledged to the Namibians to support the continental vision that is peaceful and prosperous Meanwhile, DRC President Felix Tshisekedi has taken over the chairmanship of the Africa Union from President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa. The rotational chair position is held for one year.
