The Rehoboth Baster Gemeente has announced the death of Basterkaptein, John McNab. In a short statement, the Kaptein’s Council stated that McNab died at his home on Saturday in the presence of his close family. The Kaptein’s Council paid tribute to the late McNab as a fount of wisdom, a teacher, a researcher and a father, lamenting that the Rehoboth community lost a visionary. The council has also called on the community and members of the public to respect the privacy of the McNab family as well as the legacy of the late traditional leader, who was elected in 1999. It stated a successor for the late Kaptein McNab will be chosen in accordance with the Paternal Laws, while calling on the community to guard against possible misleading information about the question of succession. The late McNab will be buried in Rehoboth on Saturday. He is survived by his wife, Thekla, a daughter and three sons.
