Botswana's President, Mokgweetsi Masisi has offered his condolences to his Namibian counterpart, President Hage Geingob, on the killing of four Namibians by members of the Botswana Defense Force (BDF) along the Chobe River last week. According to Geingob, his counterpart Masisi also agreed on a joint-investigation seeking to ascertain the facts of the incident. Geingob made these remarks at a meeting with the family of the victims at State House today. Geingob at the meeting, flanked by top officials in his administration, indicated that although an investigation is underway, he strongly rejects the killing of civilians suspected of any crime by BDF. Instead, he indicated that arrests should be followed in cases where civilians are suspected of the crime and brought to justice. This comes as authorities in Botswana claim that the victims were armed poachers who invaded the country, an allegation strongly denied by the family.
