Charging admission and registration fees at public schools violates education policy - Khomas Education Director

The acting Khomas Education Director Paulus Lewin says it is against the policy of the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture for public schools to charge admission or registration fees. Parents have complained that they are required by schools to pay admission or registration fees for their children to be accepted at schools. Some parents who were turned away called NBC to complain about the practice. Lewin called on school principles to address this as a matter of urgency, as no child should be denied access to education because their parents cannot pay school fees. The Government, through the Ministry of Education, have sufficient money to take care of COVID 19-related equipment and also to pay for the services, Lewin emphasised. The ministry, however, is in support of parents contributing voluntarily.
