Hopes for bumper harvest by the San community at Chetto Village in the Zambezi Region this year had been dashed after their crops were destroyed by elephants. They are now appealing to the Government to protect them against the elephants. The community, which for years has been surviving from a hunter-gatherer lifestyle and Government assistance, say the crop destruction by animals is a major factor keeping them from producing sufficient food for themselves.
