The City of Windhoek will be hosting a media briefing on the outcome of the land and housing workshop today at 12h00. The media briefing comes after city councilors and strategic executives underwent a five-day workshop to find solutions regarding the ongoing land issue. Some city councillors requested the training workshop saying they need to be informed to deal with the challenges facing the land question. Over the past few months, the illegal land occupation became rampant in Windhoek. Residents in the Otjomuise area became violent resulting in the national police intervening. The crowd had burned tyres and blocked off the Matshistsi road in the area were later dispersed with tear gas and rubber bullets by the police. Some residents who claim to be landless and without homes are still residing in the open in the Tobias Hainyeko constituency, this is three weeks after the dwellings they have put up were removed by city contractors.
