Zambezi Governor, Alufea Sampofu, says the COVID-19 situation in the region is concerning. From March 2020 to October only 82 people tested positive with no deaths. However, the situation changed for the worse from November to March when the region has seen an increase in cases. Sampofu says to date the region has registered 664 positive cases, an increase of 582 cases in five months as compared to 82 cases in eight months from March to October 2020. This, the Zambezi Governor says, might have been because of people travelling from other regions for the festive season. The region has recorded nine deaths from November 2020 to March 2021 and 34 are currently in quarantine out of 1 398 who were in quarantine in the region. Twelve were hospitalized this week alone. Sampofu is urging residents of the region to follow the COVID-19 health protocols by wearing their masks and sanitise their hands, especially when in public places.
