COVID-19 UPDATE | Namibia records 32 new deaths and 1 206 new COVID-19 confirmed cases

Namibia today recorded its highest number of death from COVID-19. Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula says 32 people succumb to the disease According to the figures, 19 are from Windhoek, seven from Keetmanshoop, two from Engela and one each from Outapi, Otjiwarongo ,Okakarara and Grootfontein Districts. Dr Shangula warns that active transmission is taking place in the communities and drastic measures need to be taken. None of the persons whose death was announced has been vaccinated and this Dr Shangula says, should serve as a wake-up call to those who are still hesitant to get vaccinated. 1 206 new COVID-19 confirmed cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours cycle. The reported cases stem from all 14 regions. Khomas Region is still at the forefront representing 30% of the total number of confirmed cases reported. Among the confirmed cases are 244 learners from different schools, 61 teachers, 47 students and 39 health care workers. Four hundred and six (people are hospitalized, of which 79 are in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and 26 are in high care. Namibia now has 10 432 active cases.
