There was drama at Grootfontein as the town councillors gathered to elect new officer bearers, with the presiding Magistrate postponing the swearing-in ceremony indefinitely. SWAPO councillor Talitha Garises was recalled from the Municipality council, while the party's three councillors did not show up for the swearing-in. Only the opposition councillors and Garises who was recalled by SWAPO turned up for the swearing-in ceremony. The Grootfontein Municipality's Chief Executive Officer, Kisco Sinvula read a letter from the SWAPO party's Regional Executive committee of its resolution to recall Garises.
