Operations at Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb came to an immediate halt on Thursday after an employee succumbed to injuries sustained while conducting maintenance activities in the company’s waste processing plant. According to a statement issued by Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb's Communications Manager, Alina Garises on Friday, efforts made by the company to dispatch first responders and emergency services personnel failed as the employee reportedly tragically succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital. Vice President and Managing Director of Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb, Zebra Kasete, extended condolences to the employee’s family, friends and colleagues, stating that the incident is a devastating reminder of the critical importance of safety in all aspects of the company’s operations. “It is with a heavy heart that I am reporting this tragic loss. On behalf of the entire company, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to our employee’s family, friends and colleagues. Our immediate focus is on the welfare of our employee’s family, as well as employees who have been impacted by the incident,” he stated. Kasete also said the company will work to provide all necessary support to the late employee’s family and colleagues during this difficult time. “The safety and well-being of our employees is our highest priority. Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb has advised the relevant authorities and will be cooperating fully in the investigation of this tragic incident,” he said. In 2019, Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb reported injuries that were sustained by two employees during a restart after routine maintenance at its Ausmelt furnace plant.
