ECN Chairperson refutes reports saying election day will not be declared a public holiday

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN), advocate Notemba Tjipueja, has strongly refuted media reports in which she is quoted as saying that the elections day will not be declared a public holiday. Approached for clarity, Tjipueja indicated that they are not empowered by the Electoral Act to make such a decision, and only, President Hage Geingob has such powers. Tjipueja, also says they can also not make a recommendation to President Geingob to declare a holiday because there is no provision in the law which enables them to do so.
