The Grade 11 and 12 learners in the local authority areas of Arandis, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay have expressed mixed feelings about the resumption of face-to-face classes. The learners started with face-to-face classes two weeks ago, while others in the region and other parts of the country went back to school on 23 June. Some learners, however, supported the late resumption of face-to-face classes, while others disagreed, suggesting that it could have been better to continue with E-learning at home to prevent the further spread of COVID-19. Nakita Milne, a learner from Swakopmund Private School said, "I am happy to be back at school., I think it's a struggle to work at home and have that self-motivation but I am happy to see teachers again." Sinoritha Geises, a learner from Namib High School said, "mass testing for the Coronavirus should take place in schools for teachers, learners, faculty workers as well as people who move in and out of the school on regular bases to prevent the outbreak of the virus." Frances Burger, another learner from Swakopmund Private School said, "by following the correct preventative measures face-to-face learning should continue for Grades 11 and 12 learners making it possible for them to complete academic year 2020." They said despite the challenges of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, especially at the coastal towns, they are ready and looking forward to write their examinations this year. "Basically, we had planned to write a full-scale exam in August. You already had to study for full-scale exams," said Rebecca Kalekela, a learner at Coastal High School. However, Jessy Abraham, a learner at Namib High School said, "these marks are important. Grade 11 and 12 results are very important. Grade 12s us it to apply for university and under this pressure we need these marks to be good as possible." Milne, who is also Junior Mayor of the Swakopmund Junior Town Council, called on fellow learners to take precautionary measures at all times during this difficult time of the pandemic. She said, "we need to make the best out of this year. There is so much uncertainty in this time. We should work hard. Our future depends on it and we are all in this together, we are fighting corona together. We are all trying get through this pandemic together."
