The Erongo Health Directorate says it is focusing on preventing an outbreak of the second wave of new COVID-19 infections. Director Anna Jonas says the region is better prepared to deal with the virus, should a second wave strike. Jonas says isolation wards at district hospitals, including Swakopmund and Omaruru district hospitals, have been upgraded to accommodate patients. She told reporters at a recent conference that the directorate acquired advanced equipment to help people, who need incubation. To flatten the curve of infections and reduce stigma, experts have recommended community awareness as a key aspect. The Health director says the region has received volunteers to work among communities. About 4 000 cases have been confirmed in the Erongo Region, with 2% of these cases among health-care workers. Jonas said at the conference that simulation of real scenarios at the public and private facilities will be carried out to improve working conditions.
