The first COVID-19 funeral at Otjiwarongo took place today when a 45-year-old man who succumbed to the pandemic at the weekend was laid to rest at the Orwetoveni Cemetery. The State-funded funeral was conducted by officials from the Ministry of Health and Social Services and the security cluster in the presence of Otjozondjupa Regional Governor, James Uerikua. Otjozondjupa Regional Heath Director, Gerbhardo Timotheus told NAMPA the man, who worked for a local bank, died at his home on 29 August. “He was tested for COVID-19 on 28 August by a private medical doctor after complaining of not feeling well, and his results came out positive shortly after his death Saturday night,” said Timotheus. He further stated that the Otjozondjupa Region has so far recorded 108 cases of COVID-19 of which 21 are still in quarantine facilities, with 87 recoveries. -NAMPA
