Five die from lightning in Zambezi

Police in Zambezi Region have confirmed that five people died after a lightning strike in the region on Tuesday afternoon. In the first incident at Makaravani West compound in Katima Mulilo, a thunderstorm accompanied by lightning struck seven people. One of the victims died on the spot, while three were taken to a private doctor by their family members, Police Spokesperson for Zambezi Region Inspector Kisco Sitali told NBC News that the three died while in the care of the doctor. They have been identified as Lukaemela Antonio - 35, Zesse Antonio- 14 and Angelina Rundes - 14. The three people taken by the police to the Katima Mulilo State Hospital for treatment have since been discharged from the hospital. In a separate incident, a Zambian national residing at Isize in Kabbe North Constituency died on the spot when she was struck by lightning while coming from the maize fields. She has been identified as Patricia Namatama Nanyana. Thunderstorms further caused damage to two teacher's houses at Isize Combined School, as well as a dining hall that was under construction and blew away the roof of one classroom. At Kalimbeza, a Roman Catholic Church's roof was also blown away by the storm.
