Former Meatco board members asked to explain their sudden resignations

Minister of Public Enterprise Leon Jooste has asked three former Meat Corporation of Namibia (Meatco) board members to explain their sudden resignations from the board. Board Chairperson Johnnie Hamman, Vice-Chairperson Clara Bohitile and Director Kay-Ditter Rumpf resigned with immediate effect. The minister told NAMPA on Monday that he had asked each of the experts for the actual reasons for their resignations in letters to each of them. Jooste says their responses will inform him about steps to take in safeguarding Meatco. In a joint statement issued on Monday, Hamman, Bohitile and Rumpf said their resignation comes after the board held a substantive meeting late last week. They said unreconciled differences between the management and the rest of the board prompted them to resign. Hamman and Rumpf presented their letters of resignations to Jooste on Friday, while Bohitile informed the minister on Sunday, two days ago. They were appointed alongside six other directors on 1 May last year on a three-year term. Hamman and Bohitile were nominated by Meatco members and appointed in the category of experts and Rumpf in the category of the commercial farmer.
