Former Nkurenkuru Constituency Councillor Damian Haikera Nakambare made his first appearance on an attempted murder charge in the Kahenge Periodical Court, in the Kavango West Region. The former member of the National Council is alleged to have shot and injured 42-year-old Samusiova Gabriel Hausiku following a misunderstanding over car keys on Sunday. Nakambare was also charged with the contravention of the Arms and Ammunition's Act and negligent handling of a firearm. Hausiku sustained serious injuries to his abdomen but is said to be in stable condition at the Nankudu Hospital. The state opposed his release on bail as he has pending cases including another attempted murder case, the seriousness of the matter and that investigations are still ongoing. Magistrate Barry Mufana adviced Nakambare that he can bring a formal bail application if he so wishes. The case was postponed to the eighth of November and he is remanded in police custody.
