The Director-General of the National Planning Commission, Obeth Kandjoze, says the government is bound to respect the conditions of petroleum agreements when it comes to the discovery of resources in petroleum fields. Contractual agreements would regulate investment and shareholding. Kandjoze clarified this after a concern was raised by UDF Secretary-General Hage Gawaseb on President Hage Geingob's comments recently in an interview with Aljazeera. The president said newly discovered oil in the Orange Basin in the country's south by foreign companies Shell and Total Energies, is not legally owned by Namibians.
