Health and Social Services Minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula says the growing number of COVID-19 cases is a cause for concern. Dr Shangula says this is in view of the fact that these cases had no known contacts with confirmed ones or any travel history. Namibia recorded 69 new COVID-19 positive cases after 527 results were received over the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of positive to 1 986. Walvis Bay in Erongo continue to record the highest number, with 57 confirmed cases, followed by Windhoek that recorded eight cases. Usakos, Swakopmund, Mariental, and Engela all recorded one COVID-19 positive case. A 33-year-old man from the Suiderhof military base who had COVID-19 related symptoms tested positive. Other positive cases in Windhoek are 27-year-old and 52-year-old women who also showed COVID-19 related symptoms. The case from Usakos is that of a 57-year-old woman who was in contact with a confirmed case, while in Mariental is a 34-year-old female who works at a local filling station. One positive case was also reported at Engela, that of a 34-year-old woman who was in quarantine since she traveled from Walvis Bay on 15 July. She intended to attend a wedding before she was reported by the community which led to her being quarantined. Namibia has now tested 24 852 samples of which 1 873 are active cases, with 104 recoveries and nine deaths.
