Hardap Police ready for elections

The head of the Namibian Police in the Hardap Region, commissioner John Lifasi says his region is prepared to provide safety and security for the electorate and politicians. The Hardap region has eight constituencies. The inhabitants are served by 13 police stations with the Mariental and Rehoboth being the largest. Commissioner Lifasi says his force are expecting a law-abiding citizenry during the upcoming Regional Council and Local Authority Elections. "We expect or require, from the public, even the politicians, to follow the code of conduct during campaigns. No intimidation should take place when they are convening, gatherings," he said. The regional commander also called on political parties and individuals planning to hold rallies to adhere to the COVID-19 regulations. He further called on those contesting in the upcoming elections to notify the police of their activities well in advance. "Since the campaign started, there are some who were informing us about the gathering at the 11th hour, but since we are prepared, they were allowed to go ahead, security and coverage was provided," he said. So far the regional police chief says all political campaigns went smooth in his region.
