Health Ministry adds more eligible target population groups for COVID-19 vaccination - Nangombe

Ministry of Health and Social Services Executive Director, Ben Nangombe, has announced that the ministry has added more eligible target population groups for COVID-19 vaccination under Phase One of the campaign. This is in addition to frontline healthcare workers whose vaccination commenced last month in the Khomas and Erongo regions. Nangombe said the addition was made according to the developed plan to vaccinate target populations in the Swakopmund, Walvis Bay and Windhoek districts in line with the national COVID-19 Vaccine Deployment and Vaccination Plan. He said the added target groups include the National Correctional Service staff, police officers, immigration officers, all employees manning points of entry at Hosea Kutako and Walvis Bay international airports. Employees at the Walvis Bay Harbour, cross-border transport operators including truck drivers, pilots, long-distance bus drivers with permanent residence permits in Namibia, persons involved in the distribution of old-age pension and other social grants, diplomats and journalists have also been included. Other population groups including all persons in correctional facilities between the ages of 18 and 65, all persons between 60 and 65 with and without comorbidities, religious, traditional and elected leaders. To date, 2 094 vaccines have been administered.
