The Ministry of Health and Social Services has decided to give an additional third dose of the Sinopharm vaccine with immediate effect to persons older than 60 years, including those with underlying health conditions and with a weakened immune system. The ministry says it has decided on this course of action after following scientific discussions on additional vaccine doses and booster shots. In a statement, the ministry says the third dose can be administered to people with active cancer, transplant recipients and people with HIV not on treatment and whose viral loads are not suppressed. The third Sinopharm dose can be administered six months after the second dose and must be recorded on the vaccination card, the ministry directs. The ministry further says that persons 18 years and older who have completed a two-dose schedule of vaccination with Sinopharm and seeking a third dose of the same vaccine must be given the third jab. With regards to booster doses of other vaccines, the ministry says it is still collating evidence and will keep the public informed in due course.
