Lawyers representing two same-sex couples who unsuccessfully applied to the High Court to have their marriages recognised in Namibia say they will appeal the judgement. Carli Schickerling told NBC News that today's high court verdict was simply in obedience to a precedent set through an earlier pronouncement by the supreme court, hence the High Court was bound by the Superior Court's decision. Schickerling is therefore confident that the Supreme Court will revisit its earlier stance on the matter as she says, not recognising same-sex marriage is discriminatory and goes against fundamental human rights. A three-judge bench comprising Judge Hannelie Prinsloo, Orben Sibeya and Esi Schimming-Chase dismissed a joint application of two couples Johann Potgieter and his South African husband Daniel Digashu as well as that of Anita Seiler-Liles and her Spouse Anette Seiler. The former were married in South Africa, while the latter couple's vows were formalised in Germany.
