ICT Minister launches a book on perspectives of Namibia's social protections

Namibia needs to rethink how social protection can be instrumental in confronting challenges of inequalities and social exclusion amidst the growing despair, poverty and rising inequalities. This recommendation is contained in a book on perspectives of Namibia's social protections launched in Windhoek. Social protection is described as a contract between the state and its citizens, laying down the state's responsibility to provide a minimum level of wellbeing to its citizens, especially the vulnerable ones. The book however says these measures should appropriately be aimed at combating unacceptable levels of social deprivation and ensure access to education, health care, food security, income security and decent living conditions. Launching the book ICT Minister Dr Peya Mushelenga says article 95 of the Namibian constitution makes social protection a mandatory obligation of the state.
