The bodies of three young men who drowned at the Oanab Dam in a freak boat accident on the outskirts of Rehoboth on Saturday have been identified. The deceased is 27-year-old Charlton van Wyk, Rajiv Dentlinger and George Izaaks who was 25 years old, according to the Namibian Police regional crime coordinator in the Hardap Region, deputy commissioner, Eric Clay. According to Clay, the three deceased were part of a group of nine young men who went on a boat cruise on the dam, before the boat ran out of fuel and started sinking, prompting some of the occupants to swim to safety. However, only six managed to reach the shore. Childhood friends and co-workers at telecoms firm Paratus, Van Wyk, Dentlinger and Izaaks, drowned instantly. It is also suspected that no safety protocols such as wearing of life jackets were observed. Clay informed NBC-News that police dispatched a team of divers instantly who recovered the bodies between 13h00 and 16h00 yesterday.
