The traditional homestead of businessman Frans Aupa Indongo at Oshakati was destroyed in a fire on Monday. Confirming the incident, Inspector Thomas Aiyambo of the Namibian Police Force’s Community Affairs office in the Oshana Region said the fire broke out around 10h00. Fortunately, no one was injured. Aiyambo said it is believed that a veld fire in the nearby grasslands Sunday night spread to the homestead. “The veld fire was not properly extinguished as people thought and must have reignited Monday morning and spread to the homestead,” he said. The local fire brigade rushed to the scene but could not contain the fire because of the strong winds. -NAMPA
