Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) spokesperson, Immanuel Nashinge has landed in legal trouble after he allegedly labelled a socialite, Beata Siteketa, a prostitute. Siteketa, popularly known as Betty Davids, sued Nashinge who then turned himself in at the Otjomuise Police Station this morning. Nashinge admitted guilt to the post on social media and was subsequently fined. According to court documents, Nashinge reacted to a social media post by Siteketa during which she interacted with the head of Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board, Nangula Uuandja. Siteketa now wants Nashinge to pay N$400 000 for defamation of her character. He allegedly said that state institutions were being used to promote prostitutes, an utterance that did not sit well with Siteketa. Nashinge refused to comment when contacted. The case is set to be heard next Tuesday. The IPC spokesperson is the second politician to be sued in a matter of weeks. IPC's mobiliser in the Ohangwena Region, Abed Hishoono, is being sued by First Lady Monica Geingos for spreading, what she termed defamatory allegations, on social media over her links to the private airline, West Air. Geingos said Stimulus Investments, which she had shares in, had long sold its 29% shareholding in West Air in 2011, while also countering the allegation that her firstborn had benefitted from corruption linked to the Fishrot debacle, and that he was the son of accused James Hatuikulipi. Hishoono has since apologised for his remarks but Geingos has not backed down from the lawsuit.
