Erongo Red, says Irene Simeon-Kurtz, one of the regional electricity distributors' board members, has placed the board's integrity in disrepute after disassociating herself from a board decision to appoint Immanuel !Hanabeb, as the Chief Executive Officer. !Hanabeb is replacing Fessor Mbango, whose five-year contract ended in April and which the board decided not to renew. Simeon-Kurtz wrote a statement on the letterhead of Erongo Red in which she makes several allegations, including corrupt pratices in the appointment of !Hanabeb. In the statement circulating on social media, she demands the withdrawal of !Hanabeb's contract of appointment. In her letter penned to the Erongo RED chairperson Zoe Nambahu, Simeon-Kurtz laments that the appointment of the new CEO was plagued with numerous irregularities. Simeon-Kurtz further stated that the shortlisting process was flawed and that no Affirmative Action presentation was made. She further informed the board chair that !Hanabeb did not form part of the initially shortlisted candidates. Erongo RED Corporate Communications and Marketing Specialist, Benjamin Nangombe in a media statement said that the appointment process was above reproach. !Hanabeb officially takes over as CEO on June 1, while the former CEO has launched a dispute with the Office of the Labour Commissioner. Nangombe said that Erongo RED welcomes any competent authority such as the anti-corruption watchdog, the ACC, to review and conduct an investigation regarding the appointment of !Hanabeb.
