Minister of Justice Yvonne Dausab will host a public and stakeholder engagement to discuss the sale of primary homes in the execution of judgement. The minister intends to propose legislative reforms about primary homes being subjected to auctioning via execution of judgment whenever there is a default on payment on a home loan by the owners. As a result, the Minister seeks to consult stakeholders to discuss possible solutions and reforms of the execution process of primary homes being sold in execution of judgments, and for the addition of a statutory requirement of judicial oversight by the courts in any sale of a primary home. The purpose of discussion for the consultation meeting is to: a) Identify challenges and reasons that lead to primary homes being sold in execution of judgment; b) Identify defects in the current legal or administrative framework that might lead to abuse of the legal process by creditors; and c) Come up with concrete proposals and recommendations for change to the current legal or administrative framework with a view to lessen the scourge of people losing their homes; The event takes place on Monday, 14 March, at the Windhoek Country Club and Resort from 14H00 to 17H00.
