Kapako fishermen ask for an open market, electricity and water

Fishermen from the Kapako Village in the Kapako Constituency of the Kavango East are calling on those who will be elected into power in the upcoming elections to bring development such as a proper open market as well as electricity, water and employment opportunities. They say they feel neglected as the area has potential for business activities, however, the current living standard of the area remains a challenge. Speaking to NBC News, Muranda Hausiku said their main source of survival here is fish and cutting reeds and grass along the Kavango River, which they sell along the Rundu-Nkurenkuru road. Fisherman Makayi Daniel said he survived a crocodile attack while fishing in 2018. The Kapako Constituency is situated 20km out of Rundu on the Nkurenkuru road and has 12 651 registered voters.
