Karasburg residents from informal settlements at the southern town are unhappy with the lack of decent housing and sanitation facilities in the area. Speaking to NBC News, Jacobus Basson a Built-together community activist representing about 30 disgruntled residents of informal settlements at the town said most of the residents have been living in these areas for more than eight years. He said many have raised their children in deplorable conditions with no running water, ablution facilities and electricity. According to Basson, residents are forced to make use of riverbeds and bushes to relieve themselves. The group plans to hand over a petition to the Karasburg East regional councillor, Dennis Coetzee.
