Kavango West Police investigate murder-suicide of elderly couple

A 67-year-old woman allegedly shot her 71-year-old husband before turning the gun on herself at Rurumwe village in the Kavango West region. Magdalena Venter is said to have invited her daughter to come to see her, warning that it might the last time she sees her mother. Her daughter, who resides about 15 kilometres outside Rundu, called the following day to inquire about her mother's condition. Her mother's mobile and that of her father went unanswered. According to the police preliminary report, this is when she became concerned and rushed to their residence. It is alleged that the couple were entangled in a love triangle for some time, that might have triggered the shooting. The incident sent shockwaves through the white community on the banks of the Kavango River. The Namibian Police in the Kavango West say she left a suicide note. Investigations into the matter continue.
