Subsistence livestock farmer John Ihemba has taken issue with alleged delays by the Department of Veterinary Services, DVS, in diagnosing the contagious lung sickness, in Kavango West's Kapako, Musese, Ncamagoro and Mankupi constituencies. Several villagers have reported cattle losses since January and the DVS has placed a ban on marketing and cattle movement unless for slaughter within 72 hours. The disease is not harmful to humans, the DVS has indicated. Vaccination of cattle in affected areas is expected this week once medicine procured from Botswana arrives.
