Keetmanshoop man dies on construction site

A 39-year-old man died after three marble tabletops allegedly fell on him at Keetmanshoop on Saturday. The Namibian Police's (NAMPOL) acting crime investigation coordinator for //Kharas, Chief Inspector Douglas Hanse told NAMPA on Monday that the incident happened around 13h40 at the Spar construction site at the southern town. The victim was on the trailer of a pick-up truck while the driver was reversing towards the entrance to offload the material. He said, in the process, the victim allegedly slipped and fell on the road and three marble tabletops fell on the victim. He added that the workers assisted in removing the broken tables from the victim and he was rushed to the Keetmanshoop State Hospital for treatment but succumbed to injuries 25 minutes later. The deceased was identified as Abraham Iyambo Nekwaya and his next of kin have been informed of his death. Meanwhile, NAMPOL at Aussenkehr are investigating case concealment of birth after the decomposed body of a four or five-month-old baby was found in an abandoned room at the grape farm on Friday. No arrest has been made in connection with the incident.
