Landless People's Movement councillor Ryan Gordon says a motion tabled by his peer, Stanley Bikeur, has resulted in the council writing off N$6,7 million in water bills, owed to the municipality by pensioners. In April 2021, the late Bikeur tabled a motion that called for access to safe drinking water and sanitation and the relaxation of outstanding water debts. The LPM said this at a media conference at the harbour town.
