The Landless People’s Movement has, with immediate effect, withdrawn Charlcyta Cooper as councillor from the Keetmanshoop Municipality. In a letter signed by the party’s Operative Secretary Dawid Eigub and addressed to the municipality’s Chief Executive Officer, Cooper is told that she must immediately cease to represent the party at the council. “Your endorsement is herewith revoked and you will as of today cease to be Councilor representing the Landless People's Movement Political Party and shall have no authority, jurisdiction, or power of any sort to act on behalf of the party in council affairs” Cooper, who served as Deputy Mayor at Keetmanshoop since 2020, confirmed to nbc News that she has received the letter addressed to the CEO and is shocked by its contents. She says LPM leader Bernardus Swarbooi wrote to her last week and accused her of being regularly ‘intimate with other functionaries’ who are fighting the LPM. Swartbooi also accused her of sharing critical information about the party with others, and this he said compromises the work of the party. Cooper says she responded to the party leader requesting evidence to support the allegations, however, Swartbooi has not responded to her letter.
