Minister of Health and Social Services Dr Kalumbi Shangula says the concerns over the new coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines are misplaced since the Government will never do anything to harm its people. Dr Shangula says the vaccination campaigns have been sucked into a storm of misinformation fuelled by easy access to social media. He says incorrect information is being spread innocently in some instances and in others actively, intentionally, aggressively and deceptively. Shangula says this misinformation campaign has brought families hurt and anguish that could have been avoided. He says fake news slows the COVID-19 vaccination campaign and routine immunisation programmes by undermining public trust in health services. World Health Organisation representative to Namibia, Dr Charles Sagoe-Moses, says religious leaders should address false reports by providing relevant scientific information. They were both speaking in Windhoek on Monday at a Government church consultation on COVID-19 vaccinations.
