Mozambican president Filipe Nyusi took over the rotational SADC chairmanship from Tanzania's John Magufuli. In his acceptance speech, Nyusi pledged his country's commitment to working with the region in promoting its regional developmental agenda, which includes the Regional Indicative Development Plan.
