Namibia disapproves Israel's AU observer status

The Namibian government has objected to Israel's observer status which was granted by the African Union on Friday. The Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation said Namibia is disappointed by the Chairperson of the AU Commission who received credentials from the Ambassador of Israel. A letter signed by the Executive Director in the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation Penda Naanda said granting observer status to an occupying power is contrary to the principles and objectives of the Constitutive Act of the African Union, particularly at a time when the State of Israel is increasing its acts of oppression in total violation of international law and disregard for the human rights of the Palestinian people.
