A senior US government official has urged Namibia to implement two-draft laws to make the country an attractive investment destination. Deputy Secretary of State for African Affairs, Akunna Cook, says implementing the New Equitable Economic Empowerment Framework (NEEEF) would attract US investments and build an equitable local economy. She says the draft law contains policies that would make the private sector contribute more towards national economic empowerment and transformation. Cook has further urged Namibia to implement the Whistleblowers Protection Act. She has stressed that Namibia's single democracy and rule of law have encouraged the US trade and investment partnership. The deputy secretary of state says Namibia has investment potential in infrastructure, digital technology, climate and renewable energy and health and gender that investments can unlock for the benefit of the unemployed youth. Cook is in Namibia with a business delegation from the United States who are exploring current and future opportunities for projects ranging from infrastructure improvements to green hydrogen, to health systems advancements.
